Our Team
Peter A. Wilhelm, CFP, EA, MS Taxation
Pete has more than 40 years experience in tax planning and compliance services. He began his career working in the national tax headquarters of General Business Services. He is an Enrolled Agent and a Certified Financial Planner with a Master of Science degree in Taxation from Southeastern University.
Past experience includes Director in the Individual Returns Department of General Business Services, Director of Taxation for the CPA firm of Fisher Barkanic and Associates, Director of the Tyson's Corner office of American Express Tax and Business Services and member of the Board of Directors of the Northern Virginia Chapter of the Institute of Certified Financial Planners (now known as the Financial Planning Association).
Karen Z. Wilhelm, CPA
Karen began her career working as an accountant. In 1986 she began working in public accounting, mostly in auditing and accounting. By 1996 her focus had shifted primarily to tax preparation and filing. Karen joined Wilhelm, Monroe and Gallagher, the predecessor to Wilhelm & Associates, Ltd., in 2001. As a CPA, she has audited, consulted, served as temporary controller, and prepared tax returns for small businesses, individuals and not for profit organizations. She is a Certified QuickBooks© Pro Advisor.
Charles V. Monroe, CPA, EA, MS Taxation
Business Services acquired the firm where Charlie was working, and is one of the original team that formed Wilhelm, Monroe and Gallagher, the predecessor to Wilhelm & Associates, Ltd.
Charlie earned his Enrolled Agent designation in May of 1997; and received his Masters of Science degree in Taxation from Southeastern University in 2001. He became a Certified Public Accountant in 2010. Charlie also has over 10 years experience in managing a small business.
Charlie's special area of interest lies in the international aspects of tax law. As part of his Masters program he authored a tax handbook entitled "Taxation of Non-Resident Alien Individuals". He handles the non-citizen ("expat") clients and foreign extra-national concerns for the firm. Additionally, Charlie is a strong proponent of tax-related financial planning and enjoys assisting our clients in reducing their tax liability.
On a personal note, Charlie is the proud father of 4 daughters and 1 son, ages 18 to 25. Three of his daughters are horse enthusiasts; the oldest three have chosen teaching as their profession; his youngest daughter (University of Kentucky, planning for a large animal vet career) and son are still in school.
Robert E. Gallagher, EA, MS Taxation
Bob has over 35 years tax experience. His areas of expertise include taxation of individuals, sole proprietorships and fiduciaries. An Enrolled Agent since 1976, Bob earned a Master of Science degree in Taxation from Southeastern University in 1981. In 1990, he earned the Certified Financial Planner designation.
Bob worked in the national tax headquarters of General Business Services from 1971 through 1974, where he met Pete Wilhelm, and taught tax update seminars to Business counselors across the GBS franchises from 1987 to 1990. Bob was part of the original Wilhelm, Monroe and Gallagher team. He also worked in the trust department of a large Virginia bank.
Bob's preferred focus areas are individual and small businesses, estates and trusts, especially when he can employ a tax planning viewpoint to assist the firm's clients.
Bob and his wife enjoy biking and hiking around the local countryside and trails. In the summertime, they participate in the festivals and celebrations around the area.
May Toy, CPA
May has 15 years of experience in financial accounting and specializes in bookkeeping and payroll. A 1986 graduate of California State University, Long Beach with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration/Accounting, May became a Certified Public Accountant in the State of California in 1988.
May began her career with KPMG (Peat Marwick Main & Co) in 1986 serving as a Supervising Senior Auditor with special emphasis in auditing financial institutions. May has served as an accounting consultant and manager for several multi-million dollar corporations.
May joined Wilhelm and Associates in 2004. An efficient and exceptional accountant, she performs a myriad of tasks including: internal firm accounting, payroll returns, client write-up, and accounting evaluations. During the tax season, May coordinates the electronic filing process.
May is married to an active-duty U.S. Army Engineer. After eleven moves to such places as Germany, Washington, West Point, Kansas, Hawaii, and Virginia; she and her family are happy to reside at their latest duty station in Orange County, California.
Amy Brown, CPA
Amy has over 10 years experience in accounting and tax, with extensive experience in small business issues and the use of QuickBooks and Quicken. Amy recently completed the Quickbooks Proadvisor Certification for 2011. She earned her BA in Accounting in 2000 from Midwestern State University and her CPA designation in 2005. She has previously worked in the accounting and tax departments of a medium size CPA firm.
Amy has over 10 years experience in accounting and tax, with extensive experience in small business issues and the use of QuickBooks and Quicken. Amy joined Wilhelm & Associates in 2007 and performs a variety of tax and accounting work with the firm's clients. Her experience and focus area of expertise are accounting evaluations, tax preparation for corporate and individual clients and performance projections.
Amy stays busy with her 3 sons, ages 6 months to 6 years; her husband is an air force pilot, stationed at Holloman AFB, NM. They are an outdoors family and enjoy camping and her oldest son's sports.
Lynn Clark, CPA, Masters in Taxation
Lynn has over 14 years experience in the tax field. She earned a Bachelor Business Administration in Accounting from University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh in 1997, and a Masters in Taxation from Boise State University in 2001. She began working in 1997 for Coopers & Lybrand, now PricewaterhouseCoopers. She gained her Public Accountant certification in 1999.
Lynn began working for Wilhelm & Associates in 2010. Her focus has been on Corporate and Individual clients' planning, and tax return preparation.
Lynn and her husband, an Air Force pilot, stationed at Ellsworth AFB in South Dakota, enjoy the outdoors with their young son and daughter, biking and skiing. Their son plays soccer and baseball, and their daughter has just begun "junior" ballet.
Kerry Ticknor, CPA
Kerry has over 14 years experience in taxation and public accounting. She earned her Bachelors of Business Administration in Accounting from the University of Alaska, Anchorage, in 1994, and began working with a local CPA firm in 1996. She became a CPA in 2001.
Kerry joined Wilhelm & Associates for the 2010 tax filing season, providing support to all of the Associate tax accountants in preparing both individual and corporate returns. She most enjoys working with S-Corporation clients and partnerships. An expert on QuickBooks©, she focuses on helping clients, updating and cleaning up their accounting data.
Kerry's family stays busy with 2 boys, ages 3 and 5, and she is an avid scrapbooker. She also enjoys a variety of crafts, including sewing, knitting and "all the rest".
Cindy Kenedy, CPA, MBA Taxation
Cindy has over 16 years accounting and tax experience. She began working in the public accounting arena in 1994 as an Accounting Manager for Interstate Hotels in San Diego, California. Since 1994, Cindy has worked for public accounting firms in Rapid City, South Dakota; Boise, Idaho; and Montgomery, Alabama; rising to the position of Senior Tax Accountant.
Cindy earned a Bachelor degree in Accounting from Bentley University in 1991, became a Certified Public Accountant in 1995, and earned a Masters of Business Administration in Taxation from Boise State University in 1999.
Cindy joined Wilhelm & Associates in time to assist with the 2010 tax season. She most enjoys working with business clients, doing write-ups, resolving accounting issues, and seeing the results through to tax return preparation.
Cindy has three boys and two girls, ranging from under one to 11 years old. She stays busy with the boys' soccer and baseball schedules, and her oldest daughter's competitive swimming and soccer regimen. Her husband is an Air Force officer and pilot, deployed to the Middle East.
Kristen Keirn
Kristen earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Quantitative Business Analysis at Penn State University in 1984. She began working in the tax and financial field with a tax season at H&R Block in the early 1990's. She then worked at American Express Financial Advisors for several years as a Financial Advisor and as a Paraplanner.
Kristen joined Wilhelm & Associates in 2009, focusing on individual taxes. She also supports post tax season work and payroll.
Kristen has 3 children, ages 15, 11 and 6 who are active in sports and music. She enjoys the outdoors with her children, hiking locally around the northern Virginia area.
Lela M. Lambert
Lela is the welcoming face and cheerful greeting that our clients experience when they visit or call our office. She has over twenty years of experience in the office administration field, with thirteen of those at the executive level. Lela served as Executive Assistant to the President of Headstrong, Inc. from 2001 to 2007 where she was responsible for the administration of the Public Sector office. Lela joined Wilhelm & Associates in 2007.
Lela coordinates office functions, and manages the workflow of the tax accounting practice. During tax season, she is the intake administrator, ensuring client tax organizers and documents are complete, filed, and documented for tax return preparation. Her excellence and attention to procedure, as well as her experience in production management, form the keystone of the firm's continuing high quality of tax service to our clients. Lela is a Notary Public with the state of Virginia, and her services are available at no charge to clients.
Lela and her husband enjoy having their children in the area so they get ample fun time with their grandchildren.
Celindah Grier, BS
Celindah is a "re-invented" retiree from a long and illustrious career in the government/contractor industry. She joined Wilhelm & Associates in 2010 as Tax Department Executive Assistant.
Celindah holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics, Physical Sciences and Engineering, from the University of Maryland. She has worked for over 30 years as a Systems Engineer/Program Manager, on a variety of contracts for both government and private industry. Her projects have ranged from designing systems for national security and emergency response, to implementing HR and payroll systems for government and private industry clients - including a grocery chain in Australia.
Perhaps the best credential for Celindah's current work with Wilhelm & Associates is that she has been a tax client of Pete Wilhelm, dating back to his earliest tax consulting days. She brings to the firm's work a strong "client perspective" and assists with client communications and follow-up. From her former career, Celindah is an expert in proposal writing and proposal process. She is available through Wilhelm & Associates to assist the firm's business clients in developing proposals and responding to requests for proposal.
Celindah's primary joy in life is her two little granddaughters, and her not-so little Bernese Mountain dog.
